A massive fire erupted in a firecracker factory located in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday, destroying a significant stockpile of firecrackers prepared for the upcoming Diwali festival. Explosions continued for over two hours, creating a scene of chaos.
Fortunately, no workers were present at the factory during the incident, so there were no injuries reported. However, the blasts were so powerful that nearby houses suffered damage, and the shockwave was felt over a large area. At least six rooms inside the factory were completely destroyed.
Fire and rescue teams responded swiftly and are actively working to extinguish the fire. Officials suspect that the blaze may have been ignited by a sudden spark when a lorry arrived at the site to load firecrackers.
According to the district collector of Virudhunagar, preliminary inquiries indicate that the factory was licensed. Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire and ensure safety measures are in place for future operations.
