Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian claimed that the state government has provided facilities beyond what was requested by the Indian Air Force. This statement came after three people died at a Chennai air show.
After three spectators died and over 200 were injured at the air show in Chennai, Health Minister Ma Subramanian emphasized that the state government went beyond the requests made by the Indian Air Force.
A record 1.6 million people gathered at Marina Beach to witness the fascinating air show on the 92nd anniversary of Indian Air Force Day, but many faced a grim situation due to chaos. At least three spectators died, and 230 others were hospitalized due to dehydration.
The health minister outlined the facilities provided for the event, stating that the state government exceeded the requests made by the IAF. According to Subramanian, two health teams with doctors and nurses were deployed, along with 40 ambulances at the venue. He also mentioned that paramedical teams and drinking water were arranged at Marina Beach. The Indian Army formed medical teams as well.
Chennai Police stated in an October 4 announcement that 6,500 officers and 1,500 home guards were posted for crowd control during the event.
Authorities are facing criticism for the lack of proper crowd management and safety measures during the air show. Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai condemned the ruling DMK government and called for Chief Minister MK Stalin to be held accountable for what he described as “the misery of hundreds of families” affected by the tragedy.
