A BJP leader in Tamil Nadu has claimed that a state minister’s driver and his friends sexually assaulted a college student and blackmailed her using a video of the incident. The leader accused the state police of attempting to cover up the crime, and Chief Minister MK Stalin of trying to divert public attention from the case.
Selva Kumar, Vice President of the BJP’s industrial wing in Tamil Nadu, tweeted on Monday that the accused driver worked for School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh. He claimed that the driver “sexually abused a college girl, recorded the crime, used the video to blackmail her, and forced themselves on her multiple times.”
The victim lodged a complaint at the District Superintendent of Police’s office, stating that the driver, Silambarasan, first befriended her and then coerced her into visiting various locations with his friends, where the assaults occurred.
Speaking to the media, the victim said that Silambarasan and his five friends also blackmailed her using the incident video, threatening to post it on social media if she didn’t comply with their demands.
The girl’s mother confirmed that her daughter had been gang-raped and had become pregnant, for which Silambarasan gave her a pill. “He is threatening us,” she added.
However, in her conversation with India Today TV, the girl stated that she was not gang-raped, but only Silambarasan had sexually assaulted her, contradicting her previous statements to the police and the media.
“I want action to be taken against him. There is no one else,” she emphasized, further clarifying that Silambarasan worked as a driver for a DMK member, not directly for the Minister.
