Aakhir Tak – In Depth
The Supreme Court on Tuesday witnessed tense scenes as a plea seeking an inquiry against former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi was heard. Petitioner Arun Ramchandra Hublikar accused Justice Gogoi of interfering in a judgment related to his termination. The court dismissed the plea and ordered the removal of the former Chief Justice’s name from the case.
Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma rejected Hublikar’s petition, stating that the court cannot entertain such accusations. Hublikar claimed that Gogoi’s actions had severely impacted his life. Despite repeated warnings, Hublikar refused to stop arguing, forcing the court to call security to remove him from the courtroom.
Earlier, in September, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud had ordered the removal of Justice Gogoi’s name from the list of parties. He emphasized the importance of respecting the judiciary. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court reiterated that such allegations against a former CJI were unacceptable, ultimately dismissing the plea.
