On Thursday, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud addressed the ongoing protests by doctors during the hearing of the brutal rape and murder case of a 31-year-old postgraduate doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Chief Justice Chandrachud, while urging doctors to return to work, acknowledged their long working hours and assured them that their concerns would be taken seriously.

During the Supreme Court hearing, Chief Justice Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, emphasized the importance of resuming work to maintain public administrative functions. He reassured protesting doctors that no adverse actions would be taken against them.

5. “When duty extends to almost 48 hours, it becomes difficult to resist if someone is teasing you. I am not even addressing more serious crimes.”
