Aakhir Tak – In Depth
On Sunday, over 10 people were injured in a grenade attack at a crowded Sunday market in Srinagar, near the heavily-guarded Tourist Reception Centre. This attack came a day after security forces killed top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Usman, who had been active in the region for years. Police sources reported that the grenade was thrown from a flyover near the Radio Kashmir crossing, causing panic among shoppers.
Security and medical teams promptly arrived at the scene and transported the injured to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital. A search operation has been initiated to find the attackers. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the act, calling it an attack on innocent civilians. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha directed senior officials to ensure that the attackers and their supporters face strict punishment. He also wished for the swift recovery of the injured and instructed the district administration to provide full assistance.
On Saturday, the Lashkar commander Usman, who was involved in the October killing of Inspector Masroor Wani, was killed in an encounter. Two CRPF personnel and two policemen were injured in that operation.
