Punjab Police busted an inter-state cyber fraud gang on Sunday, which defrauded noted industrialist Shri Paul Oswal of Rs 7 crore. The case was registered based on a complaint from SP Oswal, the CMD of Vardhman Group.
Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal announced the arrest of two cyber criminals and the recovery of Rs 5.25 crore from them. Seven other gang members have been identified, and efforts are underway to apprehend them. All nine members belong to Assam and West Bengal.
The fraudsters deceived industrialist Oswal by coercing him into withdrawing Rs 7 crore from various bank accounts. One of them posed as a CBI officer, showing Oswal a fake arrest warrant and threatening him with digital arrest.
The cyber cell registered the case based on Oswal’s complaint and resolved it within 48 hours. The arrested individuals have been identified as Atanoo Choudhary and Anand Kumar Choudhary, both residents of Guwahati, Assam.
This incident marks the second such case within a week. Earlier, local industrialist Rajnish Ahuja was also duped out of Rs 1.01 crore by fraudsters who threatened him with an arrest warrant, claiming that an extortion amount had been transferred to his bank account.
