Shimla Court Orders Demolition of Three Floors of Sanjauli Mosque
A court in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla has directed the demolition of three stories of the Sanjauli Mosque, which was declared illegal by various organizations. The Shimla Municipal Commissioner (MC) court has granted the Sanjauli Mosque Committee two months to complete the demolition at their own expense.
The mosque came under scrutiny after protests from certain Hindu organizations erupted, calling for its demolition.

The court dismissed the plea of local residents seeking to be made a party to the ongoing petition. The mosque committee members will bear the cost of the demolition.
Advocate BS Thakur, representing the Muslim Waqf Board, stated, “The court has accepted the submission of the mosque committee to demolish the structure that exceeds the permissible limit.”
He further added that the court has given the committee two months to carry out the demolition on their own. Thakur clarified, “Today’s decision is an interim order, and the final judgment is yet to be passed.” The next hearing is scheduled for December 21.
Tensions surrounding the Sanjauli Mosque escalated on September 11, when a protest demanding the mosque’s partial demolition turned violent, leaving ten people injured. Two days later, similar protests occurred in Mandi, where authorities had to use water cannons to disperse the crowd. Protesters in Mandi echoed the demands made in Sanjauli, further pressuring local officials for swift action.
