Sharad Pawar, a pivotal figure in Maharashtra politics for over six decades, hinted at retirement on Tuesday. While addressing a rally in Baramati, he declared, “I will not contest any future elections.” This statement reflects his concerns regarding age and political future. Pawar mentioned that the upcoming Assembly elections could mark his last political campaign.
At 83 years old, Pawar, who has served as an MLA from Baramati for 57 years, said, “I will have to stop somewhere.” He emphasized his commitment to advancing younger leaders. “I do not want power, but I will continue to serve the people,” Pawar remarked.
He briefly reflected on his political career, which includes four terms as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister. Pawar expressed his desire to nurture new leaders who can work effectively for the next 30 years. “You have made me Chief Minister four times. Now, it is time to prepare for the future,” he said.
