Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan recently shared an emotional story behind his film Devdas. He revealed that he decided to take up the role primarily for his late mother, expressing that he wants to make “big films” so his parents, who passed away before his acting career, could watch them from heaven.
Speaking on a podcast, Shah Rukh recalled that he was advised against doing Devdas, but he chose to do it because of his mother. “Both my parents were gone by the time I joined films. I felt like I needed to make movies that were big enough for them to watch from heaven,” he said. Shah Rukh also mentioned that he believes his mother is a star, watching him from above.
Despite doubts about being able to portray a character played by legendary actors like Dilip Kumar, Shah Rukh was determined. “Even though senior actors told me not to do it, I just wanted to show my mother that I did Devdas,” he added.
The film went on to become a blockbuster, cementing its place as one of Shah Rukh’s most iconic performances, alongside co-stars Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, and Jackie Shroff.
