A case has been registered against the aides of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, for allegedly threatening junior doctors at Kolkata Medical College. At least 46 complaints were filed by junior doctors against Dr. Birupaksha Biswas, Dr. Avik De, and Dr. Ranjit Saha, who were known associates of Ghosh.
The complainants accused these three doctors of intimidating them within the boys’ hostel of the medical college, issuing severe threats. Following the complaints, an FIR was lodged against these individuals, highlighting the intense atmosphere at the college.
This development follows the arrest of Sandip Ghosh in connection with alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College. The arrest occurred shortly after the discovery of the semi-naked body of a trainee doctor in the seminar hall on August 9, triggering significant protests.
Ghosh had served as the principal of RG Kar Medical College from February 2021 to September 2023. Despite being transferred in October 2023, he managed to return to his position within a month, raising questions about the administration.
The financial irregularities came into focus after the shocking incident of the trainee doctor’s murder and rape, which shook the hospital and led to widespread outrage and protests by the medical community and public alike.
