India’s captain Rohit Sharma was left stunned after Virat Kohli chose not to use the Decision Review System (DRS) after being declared out LBW in the second innings of the Chennai Test against Bangladesh. Kohli was adjudged LBW by umpire Rod Tucker in the 20th over of the match, bowled by Mehidy Hasan. Kohli, although contemplating the review, decided against it.
The replays on the screen later showed that Kohli had a significant inside edge, surprising both the players and viewers. Rohit Sharma, watching from the dressing room, expressed his shock, exclaiming, “bat tha yaar” after viewing the replay of the delivery. Umpire Richard Kettleborough, stationed at square leg, gave a sheepish smile after seeing the replay on the big screen.
At that moment, Kohli seemed to be in good form after getting out early in the first innings. He had scored 17 runs off 37 balls and crossed the 12,000-run milestone in home conditions for India.
After Kohli’s dismissal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant played out the remaining deliveries, keeping the Indian team steady at 81/3. By the end of Day 2 of the Test match, India had amassed a lead of over 300 runs.
Fans were shocked at Kohli’s decision not to take the DRS, with some blaming Shubman Gill for not urging Kohli to go for the review. Both players considered the review until the very end but decided to save it.
At the close of Day 2, India held a commanding lead of 308 runs. Ravindra Jadeja, speaking to the broadcasters post-match, remarked that the wicket was good for batting, though fast bowlers were getting some assistance with the occasional delivery.
