Riteish Deshmukh Calls for Harsh Punishment in Badlapur Sexual Assault Case
Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh has voiced his deep anger and disgust following the appalling sexual assault of two young girls at a school in Badlapur, Thane. The incident, which involved the sexual abuse of two kindergarten girls, aged three and four, by a male member of the school’s cleaning staff, has left the community in shock.
Expressing his fury on X (formerly Twitter), Deshmukh, who is a parent himself, stated, “As a parent, I am absolutely disgusted, pained, and raging with anger. Two 4-year-old girls were sexually assaulted by the male cleaning staff member of the school. Schools are supposed to be as safe a place for kids as their own homes.”
The actor further emphasized the need for stringent punishment, drawing parallels to the justice system during the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. “Harshest punishment needs to be given to this demon. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in his times gave the guilty what they deserved—Chaurang—we need these laws back in action,” he added.
The assault came to light after the young victims reported the incident to their parents on August 12. Following the revelation, the accused was arrested on August 17 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The charges against him include section 65(2) (rape of a girl under twelve years of age), section 74 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage modesty), section 75 (sexual harassment offences), and section 76 (assault or criminal force used with intent to disrobe) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
This tragic event has reignited discussions around the safety of children in educational institutions and the necessity for more robust enforcement of child protection laws in India.
