Aakhir Tak – In Depth:
Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav ignited a massive controversy on Monday by using offensive language towards Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud. The incident occurred when Yadav was asked to comment on the Chief Justice’s statement about ‘praying to God’ before the Ayodhya dispute verdict. CJI Chandrachud had mentioned that he sought divine guidance before making his decision on the long-standing Ayodhya case.
In response, Yadav said, “I don’t want to make any comments. When you bring ghosts back to life, when you bring the dead back to life, they follow justice. Where are they now?… Forget it, such ******* people keep saying such things. Should I take notice of them?”

However, after facing intense criticism, Yadav retracted his comment, claiming that he was not asked about the Chief Justice. Instead, he stated that he was responding to questions about the Bahraich violence.
“I was never asked anything about the CJI. The Chief Justice is a highly reputed person. I never made any comment about him. I was asked about Bahraich (violence), and I responded to that,” Yadav told ANI.
Reacting to the controversy, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said that he was unaware of his uncle’s controversial remark, adding, “We all respect the CJI.”
What Did the Chief Justice Say on Ayodhya Dispute:
On Sunday, Chief Justice Chandrachud mentioned that he prayed for a solution to the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute before delivering the final judgment, emphasizing that God always finds a way for those with faith.
Reflecting on his deliberation on the Ayodhya case, CJI Chandrachud said, “Very often we have cases where a solution is elusive. A similar situation arose with the Ayodhya case, which was before me for three months. I prayed to the deity for guidance.”
The Ayodhya dispute centered around whether a mosque built in the 16th century stood on the birthplace of Lord Ram, leading to decades of legal and political battles. The Supreme Court’s verdict on November 9, 2019, led to the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site, while allocating an alternative five-acre plot for the mosque, bringing an end to the nearly 70-year-old conflict.
