Railway Worker Crushed to Death During Shunting at Barauni Junction, Bihar
A 35-year-old railway worker tragically lost his life at Barauni Junction in Bihar’s Begusarai district. The incident occurred when Amar Kumar Raut was decoupling the engine of the Lucknow-Barauni Express (Train No: 15204) after it had terminated at Barauni Junction. As Amar proceeded to separate the engine from the bogie, the driver unexpectedly reversed the engine, trapping him between the engine and the coach, resulting in his immediate death.
Driver Fled the Scene Following the Incident
Passengers present alerted the driver, who subsequently stopped the engine but fled the scene. Video footage captured Amar trapped between the engine and the power car as the train stood at platform number 5 of Barauni Junction. Upon notification, senior officials from the Sonpur Railway Division arrived at the scene and ordered an inquiry into the incident.
“This is a highly unfortunate incident that should not occur in the workplace. We immediately ordered an officer-level investigation. We have released funeral assistance, and compensation will be provided to Amar’s family under the service rules,” stated the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Sonpur.
Focus on Railway Safety Protocols
Railway officials reported that a meeting with all departments has been scheduled to ensure strict adherence to safety protocols during train operations at Barauni Junction.
