Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Lavish Ambani Wedding, Calls It an Attack on the Constitution
During a rally in Sonipat, Haryana, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of creating a system where 25 wealthy people in India can spend thousands of crores on weddings, while ordinary citizens and farmers must take loans for their children’s weddings.
On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, made a strong statement, accusing business tycoon Mukesh Ambani of spending “thousands of crores of rupees” on his son’s wedding, claiming it belonged to the people of India. He also accused the BJP of attacking the Constitution and working for a small group of billionaires.
Speaking at the election rally in Sonipat, Gandhi said, “Do you know that Ambani ji spent thousands of crore rupees on his son’s wedding? Whose money is it? It is your money. If you want your children to get married, there’s no money in your bank accounts. You have to get a loan for your children’s wedding. Narendra Modi has developed a system where 25 people in India can spend crores on their weddings, but a farmer can only manage through debt.”
He further questioned, “If this is not an attack on the Constitution, then what is?”
Gandhi continued to assert that ordinary farmers can only manage family weddings by taking loans, while money flows into the pockets of a select few.
The wedding in question was the extravagant union of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, and Radhika Merchant, daughter of industrialist Viren Merchant, held in July at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The event featured opulence, attended by Bollywood celebrities and political dignitaries.
During his speech in Bahadurgarh, Gandhi also criticized the government’s schemes, such as Agnipath, stating they were designed to “take away pensions, canteen access, and martyr status from Indian soldiers.”
Agriculture-dominated Haryana is witnessing a contest between the BJP, aiming for a third term in office, and the Congress, hoping to regain power after a decade.
Voting in Haryana is scheduled for October 5, with results expected on October 8.
