A tragic hit-and-run accident occurred in Pune’s Tadi Gutta Chowk, where a man died, and three others were injured. Late Thursday night, an Audi car first hit three people riding an Activa, causing them minor injuries. Shortly after, the same Audi rammed into another bike, severely injuring Rauf Akbar Sheikh, who was later declared dead after being rushed to the hospital.
The incident took place around 1:30 AM. The police were able to detain the accused driver, Ayush Pradeep Tayal, a 34-year-old resident of Hadapsar, using CCTV footage from the area. The Audi involved in the twin accidents has also been seized.
This hit-and-run incident follows a similar case from May 2024 in Pune when a minor, driving under the influence, hit two IT professionals on a bike, leading to their deaths. The case caused public outrage when the minor was granted bail within 15 hours.
In another incident in July, Saurabh, son of former NCP corporator Bandu Gaikwad, rammed his SUV into two people in Pune while allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
Mumbai also witnessed a similar tragedy when a BMW hit a couple on a two-wheeler, dragging the woman for 1.5 kilometers. The accused, Mihir Shah, son of a now-dismissed Shiv Sena leader, has been arrested and is in judicial custody.
