Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Priyanka Gandhi’s ‘Bangladesh’ Bag in Parliament
Priyanka Gandhi continued her style of making statements through her bags. She arrived in Parliament carrying a bag that read, “We stand with the Hindus and Christians of Bangladesh.” This followed a day after she was seen sporting a bag emblazoned with “Palestine.” Previously, she carried a quirky bag featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gautam Adani with the slogan “Modi Adani Bhai Bhai”. Priyanka Gandhi led a protest by Congress MPs on the Parliament premises on Tuesday, addressing atrocities against Hindus and Christians in Bangladesh.
Attending her maiden Parliament session after her election victory from Kerala’s Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi also raised her voice against the atrocities committed against minorities in Bangladesh during the Lok Sabha session on Monday. Speaking during Zero Hour, she called for the government’s support for those suffering from these attacks. “The government should raise the issue of atrocities on minorities, both Hindus and Christians, in Bangladesh. It should discuss this with the Bangladesh government and support those who are in pain,” she stated.
Minorities in Bangladesh, including Hindus, have faced targeted attacks and damage to their places of worship following the fall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s regime on August 5. There have been numerous incidents of violence against Hindus and other minorities and attacks on temples in Bangladesh in recent weeks, which have sparked strong concerns in New Delhi. Bangladesh acknowledged 88 incidents of communal violence against minorities, primarily Hindus, on Tuesday. Priyanka Gandhi used her platform in Parliament to draw attention to these issues and urge the government to intervene.
