Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet at the 16th BRICS Summit in Russia, marking their first formal interaction in five years. This significant meeting comes shortly after both nations reached an agreement to resume patrolling in disputed areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, putting an end to the four-year military standoff.
The bilateral meeting is scheduled to take place from 4:10 PM to 5:10 PM IST. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that the focus of the meeting will be on disengagement along the LAC and further de-escalation of military tensions. The breakthrough in the border dispute marks a positive step in repairing India-China relations, which had deteriorated significantly following the 2020 Galwan Valley incident.
PM Modi also engaged in crucial discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. During the talks, Modi assured India’s support for a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and reaffirmed the strong ties between India and Russia. Meanwhile, the discussion with the Iranian President centered on the Chabahar Port and the International North-South Transport Corridor, emphasizing the growing cooperation between the two nations.
