Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in New Delhi on Monday. During their meeting, PM Modi gifted Gabbard holy Ganga water brought from the Maha Kumbh. This Kumbh Mela, which attracted over 660 million people in Prayagraj, was the largest religious gathering. The Ganga water symbolizes cultural ties between India and the USA.
This meeting occurred hours after Gabbard met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This meeting focused on anti-India activities conducted on American soil by the banned Khalistani outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). Discussions also included strategic security cooperation.
Tulsi Gabbard, a practicing Hindu, said in an interview with news agency ANI that she often draws strength and guidance from the teachings of Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita during both good and difficult times. The Bhagavad Gita is central to her life.
Gabbard is on a two-and-a-half-day visit to India as part of a multinational tour. This tour aims to strengthen ties between India and the United States.
She arrived in New Delhi early on Sunday and held talks with Indian officials on intelligence cooperation, cybersecurity, and defense relations. This visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Washington in February, where he met Gabbard and described her as a strong supporter of India-US ties. Modi and Gabbard share a positive relationship.
During her visit, Gabbard attended meetings and conferences focused on enhancing bilateral security cooperation. She joined intelligence and security officials from around 20 countries at a conclave chaired by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The National Security Council Secretariat has organized this event alongside the Raisina Dialogue since 2022. It is a crucial platform for promoting security cooperation.
This marks Gabbard’s second overseas visit since taking office, following her participation in the Munich Security Conference in Germany. Her India trip signifies a significant step towards strengthening India-US relations.
