Prime Minister Modi Demands Strict Punishment for Crimes Against Women Amid Protests
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation from the Red Fort on Independence Day, strongly emphasized the need for the strictest punishment for crimes against women. His remarks come amid widespread protests following the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
In his speech, PM Modi acknowledged the growing public anger over such heinous acts and called on state governments to ensure the safety and security of women. “As a society, we must take the issue of atrocities against women very seriously. There is widespread outrage across the country, and I can feel this anger. It’s imperative that we ensure speedy investigations and swift justice to restore public confidence,” the Prime Minister stated.
PM Modi also stressed the importance of widely publicizing the punishment for such crimes to instill fear in potential offenders. “When individuals with such monstrous tendencies are punished, it’s crucial that their sentences are not just buried in news corners. We need to ensure that these punishments are widely discussed to make sure that those who commit such sins understand that it leads to severe consequences,” he added.
His comments resonate deeply as thousands of women from various backgrounds gathered across West Bengal in midnight protests, demanding justice for the victim. The ‘Reclaim the Night’ protests saw women voicing their anger and fear, calling for immediate action against the perpetrators.
The protests turned more intense when some unidentified miscreants vandalized portions of the RG Kar Medical College, further igniting public outrage. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also joined the cause, urging the CBI to expedite their investigation and deliver justice by the end of the week.
The case has sparked a nationwide debate on the safety of women, with leaders from across the political spectrum echoing the need for urgent and decisive action. PM Modi’s strong words are a reflection of the collective sentiment that enough is enough, and justice must be served swiftly to ensure that women feel safe and protected in society.
