PM Modi’s Historic Exchange with Polish Indologists Strengthens India-Poland Cultural Ties
In a significant event in Warsaw, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a “fruitful” exchange of views with a group of distinguished Polish Indologists on Thursday. This historic meeting emphasized the strong cultural ties between India and Poland, rooted in the rich tradition of Indology, which dates back to the 19th century in Poland.
The group of eminent scholars included Prof. Maria Christopher Byrski, Prof. Monika Browarczyk, Prof. Halina Marlewicz, Prof. Danuta Stasik, and Prof. Przemyslaw Szurek, all of whom have made significant contributions to the study and promotion of Indian culture, language, and arts in Poland.
Prime Minister Modi expressed his deep appreciation for their work, particularly their role in strengthening cultural ties between the two countries. He noted the increasing popularity of Yoga across Poland and Europe, a trend supported by these scholars’ efforts.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the achievements of these scholars, noting Prof. Byrski’s role as a distinguished Sanskrit scholar and former Ambassador of Poland to India, and Prof. Browarczyk’s contributions as a leading Hindi scholar. Other scholars like Prof. Marlewicz and Prof. Stasik have made significant strides in Indian philosophy and South Asian studies, respectively.
In addition to this academic exchange, Prime Minister Modi met with prominent Polish business leaders, including Gawel Lopinski, CEO of Billenium Pvt. Ltd., and Alina Posluszny, MD of TZMO India. These discussions focused on enhancing business collaboration in emerging technologies, AI, cybersecurity, and the digital economy, reflecting the growing economic partnership between India and Poland.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to meet with Michal Spiczko and Anna Kalbarczyk, prominent figures in the Polish Kabaddi Federation. This meeting highlighted the cultural exchange fostered by sports, particularly the rising popularity of Kabaddi in Poland.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Poland marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 45 years, underscoring the importance of India-Poland relations. His engagements in Warsaw reflect a commitment to deepening these ties through cultural, economic, and sporting exchanges, paving the way for a stronger partnership between the two nations.
