Aakhir Tak – In Depth
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed its displeasure with cricketer Fakhar Zaman’s recent social media post. Fakhar questioned the decision to remove star batter Babar Azam from the squad for the ongoing Test series against England. On Sunday, October 13, the PCB announced that Babar, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Sarfaraz Ahmed would be rested.
In his post, Fakhar stated that removing a player of Babar’s caliber was unjust. He referenced Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, who received support during his rough patch. In response, a source from the PCB disclosed that newly inducted selector Azhar Ali had a lengthy discussion with Babar about the decision.
Azhar reassured Babar that he remains an integral part of Pakistan cricket’s future. Selector Aaqib Javed remarked that selecting the squad for the remaining Tests was a challenging task. The board made decisions after considering the current form of players and the urgency to perform.
Pakistan faced a significant loss in the first Test against England, losing by an innings and 47 runs. They scored 556 runs in their first innings, but England responded with a massive score of 823/7. Following this defeat, Pakistan has now gone 11 consecutive matches at home without a victory.
With multiple changes to the lineup, Pakistan will look to recover in the second Test beginning on October 15.
