Ex-New York Governor Assaulted During Evening Walk in Manhattan
Former New York Governor David Paterson, along with his 20-year-old stepson, Anthony Sliwa, was assaulted during an evening walk on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. This incident occurred around 8:30 PM on Friday, as reported by the New York Police Department, which labeled the attack a “gang assault” and is seeking assistance from the public for further information.
Both Paterson and Sliwa sustained minor facial injuries and were treated at a nearby hospital before being released early Saturday morning. Paterson, who is legally blind, also suffered minor body injuries.
During a press conference near the scene, Paterson recounted how his stepson first encountered some assailants while walking the family dog. He warned them that he would call the police if they did not stop climbing up the fire escape of a nearby building. Later, when Paterson and Sliwa encountered the same group again, an argument ensued, leading to the assault.
Sliwa attempted to fight off multiple attackers, resulting in a facial cut that required several stitches. Both Paterson and Sliwa managed to fend off their attackers.
Paterson’s spokesperson, Sean Darcy, expressed gratitude for the quick response from law enforcement and the overwhelming support from the public. Paterson’s primary focus on Saturday was on New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga as he prepared for the opening playoff game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
