During a Muharram procession in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, a tragic incident occurred. One person died, and 13 others were injured after coming in contact with a high-voltage electric wire. This unfortunate event has raised concerns about safety during public processions.

The incident happened in Gardaha village, where a ‘tazia’ came in contact with a 33,000-volt overhead cable. This resulted in the immediate death of one person, while 13 others suffered injuries. The local police were quick to respond, rushing the injured to nearby medical facilities.

Upon receiving an alert, a police team from the local station arrived at the scene. The injured were promptly taken to a nearby health center for treatment. Out of the 13 injured, nine were later referred to Shahjahanpur District Hospital for further medical attention.

DSP Arun Kumar Singh of Lakhimpur Kheri Police provided insights into the incident. He mentioned, “A ‘tazia’ touched a high voltage wire in the Mohammadi area, leading to injuries. All the injured were admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC). There is no law and order situation at the spot.”
