Aakhir Tak – In Shorts:
- NASA has identified 6 asteroids passing close to Earth on October 24, 2024, with the largest possibly reaching 580 feet in size.
- None of these asteroids pose a threat to Earth, but their proximity emphasizes the importance of monitoring near-Earth objects (NEOs).
- The closest approach will be about 2.5 million kilometers from Earth.
Aakhir Tak – In Depth:
NASA has confirmed that 6 asteroids will pass near Earth on October 24, 2024. The largest of these, 363305 (2002 NV16), measures between 140 and 310 meters (up to 580 feet) in diameter. It will pass Earth safely at a distance of about 4.5 million kilometers, traveling at a speed of 4.87 kilometers per second.
The closest of these asteroids, (2023 TG14), will come within approximately 2.5 million kilometers of Earth. With an estimated diameter of 18 to 41 meters, it will travel at a speed of 6.9 kilometers per second. Another significant asteroid, (2015 HM1), will pass at a distance of 0.0369 AU, with a speed of 10.88 kilometers per second.
Although these asteroids are considered non-hazardous, regular monitoring of such objects helps scientists understand the dynamic environment of space. This ongoing research ensures that any potential threats can be detected early, safeguarding Earth. These asteroids are remnants from the early formation of our solar system and offer insights into the vast, complex nature of space.
