Nishant Kumar Dismisses Political Ambitions Amid Speculations
Amid ongoing speculation about his potential entry into politics, Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has made a clear statement regarding his future. Nishant, 49, recently addressed rumors swirling around his political aspirations while stepping out of an electronics store in Patna. His comments highlight his focus on spirituality rather than politics.
“I have come here with a spiritual perspective. I am here to buy a speaker for my mobile so that I can listen to ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ better. I have already embarked on the spiritual path,” Nishant Kumar explained. His remarks come as a response to ongoing speculation about his possible entry into politics.
Background on Nishant Kumar
Nishant Kumar, like his father, is an engineer by training. He graduated in software engineering from the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra in Ranchi. Despite being the son of the prominent Bihar CM, Nishant has remained largely out of the public eye, preferring to stay away from the political arena.
In recent months, particularly during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, there have been growing rumors about Nishant Kumar’s potential involvement in politics. These speculations were fueled by suggestions from some JD(U) leaders who saw him as a potential leader who could rejuvenate the party’s fortunes.
JD(U) and Its Political Struggles
The Janata Dal (United) or JD(U), led by Nitish Kumar, has experienced a period of decline in recent years. The party, which is now part of the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has struggled with diminishing electoral presence in both the Lok Sabha and the Bihar state assembly. Nitish Kumar’s health has further complicated the party’s challenges.
Given the party’s struggles, the idea of Nishant Kumar stepping into a leadership role was seen by some as a potential solution to its leadership crisis. However, despite calls from within the party for his involvement, Nishant has repeatedly denied any political ambitions.
JD(U) Leaders’ Stance on Nishant
JD(U)’s general secretary Param Hans Kumar had previously suggested that Nishant Kumar might be a good fit for the party’s leadership, citing his calm demeanor and potential as a visionary leader. However, these suggestions have been consistently refuted by Nishant himself and other senior JD(U) leaders.
Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, another senior JD(U) leader, has labeled the speculations about Nishant’s political career as “baseless” and urged party members to refrain from discussing the matter publicly.
Dynasty Politics and Nitish Kumar’s Position
Nitish Kumar, a staunch critic of dynasty politics, has faced a unique challenge. Despite his long-standing opposition to political nepotism, the possibility of his son Nishant entering politics has sparked controversy. Senior journalist Santosh Singh reports that while some JD(U) factions are pushing for Nishant’s involvement, Nitish Kumar himself remains uncomfortable with the idea.
Rohit Singh, another journalist, highlights that Nitish Kumar has always been vocal against dynastic politics, making it unlikely that Nishant will join politics while his father is active in the political arena.
Nishant Kumar’s Current Focus
For now, Nishant Kumar appears to be focused on his personal spiritual journey rather than political ambitions. As he continues to engage in spiritual practices and use his new Bluetooth speaker to enjoy bhajans, the speculation surrounding his potential political career remains just that—speculation.
