Aakhir Tak – In Depth:
China’s infrastructure construction near Pangong Lake is rapidly advancing. Satellite images captured in October 2024 reveal that China is building over 100 structures in this area, located 38 kilometers east of the 2020 India-China border standoff site.
Settlement Features:
Situated at an elevation of 4,347 meters, the site includes numerous residential and administrative buildings. The construction is spread across two zones, suggesting the possibility of administrative and operational purposes.
Experts speculate this settlement might be intended for Tibetan nomads. The area likely has sufficient water supply, and renewable energy resources may power the settlement.
As India and China already face heightened border tensions, this construction has raised concerns in the region. Although the settlement is not yet complete, progress may slow down due to harsh weather conditions in the coming months.
