Aakhir Tak – In Depth
In the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, a new and controversial proposal, known as the ‘General’s Plan,’ has surfaced. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been presented with this plan, which suggests cutting off all essential supplies to northern Gaza, effectively forcing Hamas militants to surrender due to starvation. The plan aims to dismantle Hamas’ control in northern Gaza by creating unbearable conditions for its fighters and civilians alike.
For months, Israeli forces have intensified military operations in northern Gaza, particularly with the recent attack on the Jabalia refugee camp. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have called on civilians to evacuate the area, leading to speculation that this might be part of the proposed strategy.
The plan’s chief architect, Giora Eiland, former head of Israel’s National Security Council, sees this as the only solution to end the prolonged war and put pressure on Hamas to release Israeli hostages. Under this proposal, civilians in northern Gaza would be given a week to evacuate, and those who remain would be classified as combatants.
However, Israeli officials have expressed ambiguity regarding the plan’s implementation. An Israeli military spokesperson stated that no official plan like this has been approved, though parts of it might already be in motion.
Meanwhile, international human rights groups have voiced concerns, warning that the plan could lead to a humanitarian disaster. The United States has also opposed any plan that would result in direct Israeli occupation in Gaza.
