Boris Johnson Claims Bugging Device Found After Netanyahu’s Visit
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed in his new book, Unleashed, that a bugging device was discovered in his bathroom after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used it during his visit in 2017. According to Johnson, after Netanyahu’s use of the bathroom, his security team found a listening device during a routine sweep.
In his book, Johnson states, “Thither Bibi (Netanyahu) repaired for a while, and it may or may not be a coincidence but I am told that later, when they were doing a regular sweep for bugs, they found a listening device in the thunderbox.” Netanyahu, who was on his first-ever visit to London, requested to use a bathroom that Johnson described as resembling “the gents in a posh London club.”
Notably, Israel has faced accusations of snooping on friendly nations in the past. In 2019, the U.S. government suggested that Israel was likely responsible for the placement of cellphone surveillance devices found near the White House and other sensitive locations in Washington, as reported by Politico.
However, Netanyahu denied the report, and then-U.S. President Donald Trump also deemed it “hard to believe.”
