Nayab Singh Saini is set to take his oath as Haryana Chief Minister on October 17. The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Ministers from other BJP-ruled states. Saini, who led the BJP to a historic third consecutive victory in the Haryana Assembly elections, will now take the oath for a second term.
The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at Parade Ground in Panchkula. Sources state that Saini will be formally elected as the leader of the BJP’s legislative party before the ceremony. A 10-member committee has been formed by the state chief secretary to oversee the arrangements for the oath-taking ceremony, led by the Panchkula District Commissioner.
During the elections, the BJP indicated that if it won, Nayab Singh Saini, who replaced Manohar Lal Khattar as Chief Minister in March, would be their choice for the top post. Saini belongs to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), a major vote bank in the state.
Earlier this week, Nayab Singh Saini and other newly-elected BJP MLAs from Haryana met with senior party leadership in Delhi. Saini also met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, and Union Ministers JP Nadda.
Defying a decade of anti-incumbency and ignoring exit poll predictions, the BJP scripted a remarkable turnaround in Haryana, securing 48 of the 90 Assembly seats. Congress, which aimed for a comeback, ended with 37 seats.
The JJP, which allied with the BJP from 2019 until March 2024, faced a significant defeat. The AAP failed to win any seats, while the INLD managed just two seats. Three independents, including Savitri Jindal, won and have decided to support the BJP.
