Deadliest Naxal Attack in Two Years
On Monday, Naxals carried out a deadly attack in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. An IED blast destroyed a District Reserve Guard (DRG) vehicle on the Bedre-Kutru Road, killing eight DRG personnel and a driver.
Returning from a Joint Operation
The DRG personnel were returning from a joint anti-Naxal operation conducted in Dantewada, Narayanpur, and Bijapur. The attack occurred at around 2:15 PM near Ambeli village in Bijapur. Security has been heightened in the area following the incident.
Comparing Past Attacks
This incident marks the most severe attack by Naxals on security forces in the last two years. A similar attack took place in April 2023 in Dantewada, where ten personnel and a driver were killed in an IED explosion.
Political Reactions
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai called the incident “extremely painful” and vowed that the sacrifices of the martyrs would not be in vain. Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh stated, “Such cowardly acts reflect the desperation of Naxals against growing anti-Naxal operations.”
