Mysuru-Darbhanga Train Collision: Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Centre, Echoes Balasore Tragedy
In a scathing critique, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi targeted the central government following the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express train accident on Friday evening at Kavaraipettai railway station, near Chennai. He compared this incident to the horrific Balasore accident that claimed the lives of nearly 300 people. Gandhi accused the government of failing to learn from previous mishaps, suggesting that the administration’s lack of accountability is leading to repeated accidents.
Rahul Gandhi remarked, “The Mysuru-Darbhanga train accident mirrors the Balasore tragedy—a passenger train colliding with a stationary goods train. Despite numerous lives lost, no lessons have been learned. Accountability starts from the top. How many more families need to suffer before the government takes action?”
Relief and Recovery Efforts
The collision injured at least 19 passengers, though fortunately, no casualties have been reported. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin confirmed the quick mobilization of relief efforts. Twenty-two ambulances were dispatched immediately, and relief operations began swiftly, with arrangements made for the affected passengers. Stalin stated, “Three marriage halls have been opened for passengers, and all necessary supplies are being provided.”
Restoration work is ongoing, with authorities striving to resume train services as soon as possible. Drone footage revealed the extensive damage, with several coaches strewn across the site. Locals gathered around, observing the recovery process. Stalin urged the central government to take proactive steps to prevent future rail accidents.
The accident highlights the persistent issues plaguing the Indian railway system, raising questions about safety protocols and maintenance measures.
