On October 14, Air India flight AI119 from Mumbai to New York was diverted to Delhi following a bomb threat. The flight took off from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at around 2 AM. Shortly after takeoff, a bomb threat was received via a tweet. Upon receiving this alert, the government’s security regulatory committee immediately instructed the flight to divert to Delhi.
In an official statement, Air India said, “Flight AI119 operating from Mumbai to JFK received a specific security alert and was diverted to Delhi. All passengers have disembarked safely at the Delhi airport terminal. Our ground staff is ensuring minimal inconvenience for our guests due to this unexpected disruption.”
Delhi Police confirmed that all necessary safety protocols are being followed to ensure the safety of both passengers and crew members. An extensive inspection of the aircraft is currently underway to assess the bomb threat.
