A stampede broke out at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus ahead of the departure of the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express due to the Diwali rush, injuring nine people. The incident took place at 5:56 a.m. on Platform 1 as crowds swelled to board the train. The injured include Shabbir Abdul Rehman (40), Parmeshwar Sukhdar Gupta (28), Ravindra Harihar Chuma (30), Ramsevak Ravindra Prasad Prajapati (29), Sanjay Tilakram Kangay (27), Divyanshu Yogendra Yadav (18), Mohammad Shareef Shaikh (25), Indrajith Sahani (19), and Noor Mohammad Shaikh (18).
Around 2:30 a.m., the train was brought to the platform, attracting a large crowd eager to board. As the stampede unfolded, railway officials quickly called ambulances and transported the injured to Bhabha Hospital.
Visuals from the scene showed railway police and fellow passengers assisting the injured. In a video, a railway officer was seen carrying an injured passenger over his shoulder. According to eyewitnesses, “A sudden stampede erupted this morning at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus as the crowd surged to board the Bandra-Gorakhpur train, overwhelming the station’s capacity and injuring nine.”
