Protesters Rally Near Manipur Governor's Residence Amid Violence

Protests erupted in Manipur’s Imphal on Monday as a torch rally was organised by a large group of demonstrators expressing frustration over the escalating violence in the state. The rally marked a significant show of discontent amid the recent surge of attacks and killings reported across several districts.

The protestors gathered near the Governor’s House, carrying torches and chanting slogans to demand immediate intervention to halt the rising unrest. The demonstration aimed to highlight the deteriorating situation and the growing concern among residents over the ongoing conflict.

Security forces swiftly intervened to manage the situation, dispersing the crowd and restoring order. No immediate reports of injuries or arrests were made, but authorities remain on high alert as tensions simmer in the region.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh met with the Governor, demanding that the responsibility and powers of security in the state be returned to him. Recently, the central government transferred responsibility for law and order to the security advisor appointed by the Union Home Ministry.

In response to the recent attacks, Manipur Police have deployed anti-drone systems in the region and are in the process of acquiring additional systems and anti-drone guns.

The increase in drone and rocket attacks has added a new dimension to the conflict between the Meitei and Kuki groups, which has already claimed over 200 lives.
