Aakhir Tak – In Depth
On October 18, an explosion occurred at the Chinese consulate in Mandalay, Myanmar, damaging the roof tiles. Thankfully, there were no casualties reported. According to the Myanmar military, the blast happened on Friday afternoon, and security forces are now investigating to arrest the “terrorists” behind it.
The military administration of Myanmar, which came to power after ousting the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021, is currently engaged in conflict against pro-democracy guerrillas and ethnic minority militias. In recent months, the military has found itself on the defensive, losing significant territory.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, these incidents raise concerns for China regarding the stability of the military government in Myanmar. China is Myanmar’s largest trading partner, having invested billions in mining, oil, and gas pipelines.
After the explosion, security around the consulate has been tightened, with nearby roads closed. A local resident noted the increased security measures. The shadow National Unity Government condemned the attack, stating it opposes any actions that may lead to ethnic and religious conflict.
