Man Throws Acid on Wife After Divorce Demand

A 34-year-old man threw acid on his wife in Mumbai’s Malvani area after she discovered his affair and requested a divorce. The incident occurred when the 27-year-old woman was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where she is currently being treated for severe burns.

The couple had a love marriage in 2019. Shortly after, the woman learned about her husband’s unemployment, drug addiction, and extramarital affair. These issues led her to seek a divorce.

For the past three months, she had been living with her mother in Malad. On Wednesday (September 25) morning, her husband forcibly entered her mother’s residence and threw a corrosive substance at her, causing serious injuries.

Following her complaint, the police registered a case against the husband under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita (BNS), including 124(2) (Voluntarily causing hurt by use of acid), 311 (Robbery or dacoity with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 333 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint), and 352 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).
