In a stern move, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has issued an ultimatum to the Kolkata police regarding the shocking rape and murder of a 31-year-old woman trainee doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. If the police fail to solve the case by Sunday, August 18, the investigation will be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Describing the incident as “extremely painful” and “shocking,” Banerjee expressed her concern over the alleged involvement of individuals within the hospital. She revealed that the victim’s parents suspect internal complicity in the crime.
“We have deployed a dog squad, video department, and forensic experts to investigate this case comprehensively,” Banerjee stated. “If the Kolkata Police is unable to solve the case by the given deadline, we will transfer it to the CBI for further investigation.”
Banerjee highlighted the severity of the incident, stressing that swift justice is necessary. She expressed her dismay that such a heinous act occurred despite the presence of nurses and security personnel in the hospital.
“I have instructed the police to act decisively, and we have removed key officials including the principal, Head of Department, Medical Superintendent cum Vice Principal (MSVP), and the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) from the hospital,” Banerjee added. “This case must be fast-tracked to ensure that those responsible are punished promptly.”
The Chief Minister’s intervention underscores the urgency and gravity of the situation, reflecting the widespread public outrage and demand for justice.
