Malayalam Actress Minu Muneer Accuses 7, FIR Filed Against Actors and Directors
Former Malayalam actress Minu Muneer has accused seven prominent figures, including renowned actor Jayasurya, of physical and verbal abuse. These allegations have led to an FIR being registered against the accused. In a recent interview with India Today, Muneer shared her ordeal and discussed the impact of the Hema Committee report, which inspired her to come forward.
Muneer alleged that in 2007, actor-director Balachandra Menon forced her to witness a group sex act in his room. She recounted the incident saying, “There were three girls and a few other men in the room, watching. I walked out, but he asked me to sit and watch.”
She also reflected on her experience in the Malayalam film industry, which she described as a nightmare. “I had a lot of dreams, but the industry turned into a nightmare for me. The Hema Committee report is not just a cleansing of the film industry but also of society,” she remarked.
In 2013, Minu Muneer said she was subjected to abuse by Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Edavela Babu, Jayasurya, Advocate Chandrasekaran, production controller Noble, and Vichu. She added that the abuse became unbearable, forcing her to leave the industry and relocate to Chennai.
After the public release of the Hema Committee report on August 19, many women in the Malayalam film industry came forward with their own stories of abuse. Muneer decided to speak out, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has since been formed to address the complaints that have been filed.
Muneer also accused some individuals of attempting to bribe her into settling the case. “I have been receiving calls offering me money for a compromise. Now, I don’t pick calls from unknown numbers,” she stated.
In addition to these allegations, Muneer is facing a POCSO case based on a complaint from her cousin. She reacted to this by claiming that her cousin was seeking revenge because she refused to help her get roles in the industry.
On September 25, actor Edavela Babu was arrested by the Special Investigation Team after Minu accused him of physical and verbal abuse. He was later granted anticipatory bail. However, the investigation is still ongoing, with the possibility of further action against the accused.
