Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has come to an agreement on seat-sharing, signaling a key moment in the state’s political landscape. Congress is likely to contest between 105 and 110 seats, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) is set to get 90 to 95 seats, and Sharad Pawar’s NCP is expected to contest in 75 to 80 constituencies, according to sources. The alliance, formed post the 2019 elections, aims to defeat the ruling Mahayuti coalition, which includes BJP, Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction.

Internal disagreements had emerged earlier between Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) over seat distribution. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut and Congress’s Nana Patole publicly traded barbs over this, causing strain within the alliance. However, the issue was resolved after Sharad Pawar intervened as a mediator, bringing the coalition back on track.

With elections fast approaching, MVA is strategizing to replicate its past success, as seen in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls where they secured more seats than the Mahayuti. The Maharashtra Assembly election, involving 288 seats, will be held in a single phase on November 20, with results expected on November 23.
