Aakhir Tak – In Depth
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, consisting of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), the Congress, and Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has finalized a seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. The three major parties will each contest 85 seats, with a total of 255 seats distributed among them.
Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole confirmed the agreement, adding that discussions for the remaining 18 seats are ongoing. He emphasized that these discussions involve other alliance members, including the Samajwadi Party, and a resolution is expected soon. “We will have talks with our alliance parties including the Samajwadi Party, and by tomorrow they will be cleared,” Patole said.
The agreement strengthens the MVA’s position as they aim to form the government. Sanjay Raut, leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), remarked that the alliance is unified under Sharad Pawar’s leadership and that the last meeting confirmed their collective approach to the elections. “Sharad Pawar instructed us to go in front of the media and declare the seat-sharing formula,” Raut noted, affirming that the alliance’s goal is to contest all 288 seats in the state.
According to Raut, the remaining seats, which will total 18, will be allocated after further discussions. The alliance plans to conclude these discussions soon, ensuring a comprehensive strategy to take on their opponents in the elections.
With the political landscape of Maharashtra becoming more competitive, this agreement among the three main MVA parties will likely enhance their chances of success. The alliance has already demonstrated significant political strength in previous elections, and this unified strategy could bring them closer to their goal of forming the state government.
The MVA’s decision to contest all 288 seats, including those yet to be allocated, shows their ambition to dominate the Maharashtra Assembly. The alliance is now focused on coordinating with smaller parties to finalize the seat distribution, ensuring all 288 seats are accounted for in their electoral strategy.
