Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Intensified Race for CM Post
As Maharashtra awaits the assembly election results, the battle for the Chief Minister’s post has intensified within both the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and the Mahayuti alliances.
Rift in MVA
The MVA coalition—comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), and Sharad Pawar’s NCP—has seen disagreements over leadership.
Congress leader Nana Patole claimed his party is close to a majority and that the MVA government should be formed under Congress leadership.
Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena (UBT) responded by urging Congress leadership to clarify their stance on the matter.
Discord in Mahayuti
The ruling Mahayuti alliance also saw internal tensions. Sanjay Shirsat, an MLA from Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), stated that Eknath Shinde deserved another term as Chief Minister.
BJP leader Pravin Darekar dismissed this as Shirsat’s personal opinion, not the party’s official stand.
Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction predicted 170 seats for Mahayuti but emphasized that the CM decision lies with BJP’s central leadership.
What Exit Polls Predict
Exit polls favor the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance with a majority. However, the MVA claims it can secure 145-155 seats to form the government.
In the 2019 elections, BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44. With alliances reconfigured, results will decide Maharashtra’s political landscape.
