Maharashtra CM Candidate: Uddhav Thackeray's Call to MVA Partners

Uddhav Thackeray Calls for MVA to Announce Maharashtra CM Candidate

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray has urged the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners to promptly announce the Chief Ministerial candidate for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. Thackeray emphasized that his party would fully support any candidate chosen by the Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP, signaling unity within the opposition alliance as they prepare for a critical electoral battle.

Thackeray’s Appeal to MVA Leaders

During a key meeting with the MVA, Thackeray highlighted the importance of announcing a CM candidate before launching the election campaign. He underscored that the assembly elections would be a pivotal fight to protect Maharashtra’s self-respect.

“There have been speculations about the CM face of MVA. I appeal to all leaders of the alliance, whether it’s Prithviraj Chavan or Sharad Pawar, to announce their choice for CM, and I will support them unconditionally,” Thackeray stated, urging his allies to unite behind a single leader.

Historical Approach to Alliances

Thackeray also reflected on the traditional approach of the alliance, where the party winning the most seats would secure the CM post. He stressed that following this precedent would be crucial for a successful campaign. “We used to follow this rule that whoever wins more seats will get the CM post. In earlier alliances, we also followed the same formula. So I appeal that first we have to announce the CM face, and only then we can start our campaign,” Thackeray reiterated.

Symbolism and the Battle for Identity

In a powerful statement regarding the loss of his party’s traditional ‘Bow and Arrow’ symbol to the rival Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde, Thackeray declared that the ‘Lighting Torch’ now symbolizes their fight. “Even if they have stolen my ‘Bow and Arrow’ symbol, I have taken the ‘Lighting Torch’ as a symbol to set their backs on fire,” Thackeray proclaimed, emphasizing resilience and defiance.

This statement comes after the Election Commission, in February last year, allotted the ‘Shiv Sena’ party name and its bow and arrow symbol to the Eknath Shinde faction. Shinde’s faction had split from Thackeray’s group and formed a government with the BJP in 2022.

A Call for Unity Among MVA Allies

Thackeray further pointed out the recent splits within the NCP, urging the Congress and NCP to avoid internal conflicts and focus on the common goal of winning the upcoming elections. “They split our party, and then the NCP. However, Congress is fortunate to have retained their ‘Panjaa’ symbol. Now, Congress’s hand will hold our ‘Mashaal,’ and the Maavla (fighter) of the NCP will blow the trumpet of our victory,” he remarked.

Thackeray emphasized the need for the alliance to reach every corner of the state with their respective symbols and avoid in-fighting to ensure a successful election campaign.
