Delhi Police has launched a new app named ‘Kutumb’ to ensure the safety and well-being of senior citizens. The app was unveiled by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on Tuesday. The ‘Kutumb’ app aims to cater to the specific needs of senior citizens, making their lives safer, more connected, and manageable in the digital age.
Delhi Police has already registered over 65,000 senior citizens on the app to guarantee their safety. The police have established Senior Citizen Cells in all district Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) offices and the Special Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (SPUWAC) at the PHQ level. Regular meetings, visits, and measures for improving safety and security are being conducted by the police.
The “Kutumb” app aims to ensure timely visits to senior citizens, measure their vulnerability, and adopt an empirical approach to address their issues. During police visits, officers fill in responses and evaluate the ground situation, creating a “vulnerability matrix” that identifies vulnerable senior citizens and measures vulnerability parameters.
A pilot run of the app was conducted in the Shahdara and South-West Districts, where over 12,000 police visits were monitored. The desktop-based website enables the Delhi Police to access geospatial data of senior citizens along with vulnerability scores to ensure better care and policy interventions aimed at their welfare.
