Kolkata Rape Accused’s Red Light Area Visit Before Crime

The ongoing investigation into the horrific rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor in Kolkata has revealed disturbing details about the prime accused, Sanjay Roy. The accused, who was arrested shortly after the crime, reportedly visited two red-light areas and consumed alcohol before committing the heinous act.

On the night of August 8, Sanjay Roy, along with another civic volunteer, visited Sonagachi, a well-known red-light district in North Kolkata. Sources indicate that Roy, who was heavily intoxicated, waited outside while his partner entered a prostitute’s house. Later, they moved to another red-light area in Chetla, South Kolkata, where a similar scenario unfolded.

In his intoxicated state, Roy engaged in inappropriate behavior, teasing a woman who was passing by. He also contacted another woman, asking for her nude photographs. After parting ways with his partner, who left on a rented bike, Roy lingered around the Trauma unit of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Sanjay Roy was seen in the vicinity of the hospital’s emergency wing around 4:03 AM, entering the seminar hall on the third floor. According to his confession during police interrogation, he spotted the trainee doctor sleeping in the seminar hall, where he proceeded to assault and rape her.

This was not the first time Roy had exhibited aggressive behavior. Reports suggest that he had been involved in a scuffle with a male doctor at the hospital two to three months prior and had also verbally abused a female doctor while admitting a patient, though he later apologized for his actions.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now received permission from a Kolkata court to conduct a lie detector test on Sanjay Roy as part of the ongoing investigation into the case.
