The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently alleged that the crime scene in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case was tampered with. However, the Kolkata Police has strongly refuted this claim.
The controversy arose after a photograph of the seminar hall, where the 31-year-old trainee doctor was found dead, went viral on social media. The picture showed several people present at the scene.
The CBI, during a Supreme Court hearing, claimed this indicated tampering and that the victim’s family was misled about the cause of death.
Kolkata Police, on the other hand, clarified that all individuals present in the photo were authorized personnel involved in the investigation. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Indira Mukherjee, stated that the area was cordoned off, and the body was not visible in the picture.
She further explained that the photograph was taken on August 9th, after the completion of the inquest.
The CBI also raised concerns about the delay in filing the FIR and the alleged lapses by the hospital administration in handling the case. They believe the authorities failed to secure the crime scene adequately despite being aware of protocols.
The incident, which involved the rape and murder of a trainee doctor by a civic volunteer, has sparked nationwide outrage and demands for stricter laws to ensure women’s safety.
The investigation is ongoing, with both the CBI and Kolkata Police working to bring justice to the victim.
