Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge briefly felt unwell during a rally in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. However, he quickly reassured the public that he would not die anytime soon, particularly before removing Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In his speech, Kharge said, “We will definitely restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and continue fighting for it. I am not going to leave it like this. I’m 83 years old, and I’m not going to die so soon. I will remain alive until we remove Modi. I will fight for you and listen to you.”
The incident occurred while Kharge was paying tribute to a head constable killed in an ongoing operation against terrorists in Kathua. He felt dizzy and had to be seated by his colleagues. Party leaders confirmed that Kharge is stable and under medical care.
Accusing the BJP government of controlling Jammu and Kashmir remotely, Kharge remarked, “They never wanted to conduct elections here. It was only after the Supreme Court’s intervention that they started preparing for elections.”
Congress General Secretary Gulam Ahmed Mir told PTI that Kharge was addressing the rally in Jasrota when he started feeling unwell. His colleagues assisted him to a chair.
Kharge had traveled to Jasrota to gather support for party candidates in the assembly elections. He is scheduled to address another rally in Ramnagar, Udhampur district.
Jammu and Kashmir Congress Vice President Ravindra Sharma reported that Kharge was taken to a room for a medical check-up after feeling dizzy. Doctors will decide if he can attend the second rally.
