Iran’s Supreme Leader Warns Israel ‘Will Not Last Long’
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a stern warning against Israel. The 85-year-old Khamenei, addressing thousands from the historic Imam Khomeini Mosque, held a Russian-made Dragunov rifle during his sermon, marking his first Friday prayer in half a decade. He insisted that Iran would not back down in the face of Israeli aggression, stating, “We must stand up against the enemy.”
Khamenei warned that Israel “will not last long.” His speech aimed to boost the morale of Iran’s military and the nation after facing several setbacks. Tensions between Iran and Israel have been escalating, particularly following the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and top Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps commander Abbas Nilforoushan.
The recent missile strike, where Iran launched 200 missiles towards Tel Aviv, has brought both nations to the brink of war. Khamenei justified Iran’s largest missile attack on Israel, saying, “The move taken by our armed forces was the least punishment in the face of the crimes of the Zionist regime.” He declared the action completely legal and legitimate.
Through the significant crowd attending the ceremony, Khamenei sought to portray that ordinary people supported the leadership’s decision to attack Israel. He last led Friday prayers in January 2020.
