Aakhir Tak – In Depth
A gazette error led to a claim by the Waqf Board on 1,200 acres of land in Vijayapura, Karnataka, causing confusion among farmers. Vijayapura’s district in-charge minister, M.B. Patil, clarified that only 11 acres are actually Waqf property, including a cemetery and a few religious structures. He assured farmers that the error would soon be corrected and that their lands are not under threat.
Farmers in Honvada village reported that 1,500 acres of their ancestral land was listed under Waqf Board ownership. Responding to this, Patil explained that the confusion was due to a 1974 gazette error, which had already been corrected in 1977. On October 19, he held a meeting with officials and directed them to resolve the issue. He also urged BJP MP Tejaswi Surya and MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal to avoid politicizing the matter. The minister reassured the farmers that their land is secure and that no further issues will arise.
